I Am Second

Friday, July 15, 2011

I am Second is a movement meant to inspire people of all kinds to live for God and for others. Actors. Athletes. Musicians. Business leaders. Drug addicts. Your next-door neighbor. People like you. The authentic stories on iamsecond.com provide insight into dealing with typical struggles of everyday living. These are stories that give hope to the lonely and the hurting, help from destructive lifestyles, and inspiration to the unfulfilled. You’ll discover people who’ve tried to go it alone and have failed. Find the hope, peace, and fulfillment they found. Be Second.

I was watching Just Go With It (the movie starring Jennifer Anniston and Adam Sandler), and there was this really cute kid who played Jennifer's daughter in the movie. I searched her up, her name's Bailee Madison. From her Wiki page, I found a movement called "I Am Second". And through that movement, I watched some videos about actors, singers and other people confessing their faith, putting Christ first and themselves second.

Here are a few testimonials from some notable people in the entertainment industry, including little adorable Bailee :D

I am just so impressed with her spiritual confidence and her love for God. She's only 12!

Jason Castro! (I think everyone knows him, right?)

Stephen Baldwin. He starred in the 2000 Flinstone's movie, fyi. He's Alec Baldwin's brother.

Awesome God.

Friday, March 4, 2011

Yep, He is an awesome God. Wonderful, merciful, gracious, peaceful and loving. Obviously, these are not the only words I can use to describe Him. He's indescribable.

I had this problem in school recently, which got me very angry and stressed. And that lead to the previous rant post.

But it's all good now. As I have expected, the day after the problem started and I wrote the rant post, she looked as if she had an indignation towards me. She ignored me, avoided talking to me, gave me this super black face.... so I thought, let's just get this over with. So, I confronted her. I asked her if she had any problems with the prefect duty I gave her, she said she had none. Then I asked her if she had a problem with ME. She said no and she mentioned we were friends since primary school and all etc.
Finally, I addressed the problem that has been bugging me yesterday. I told her that the point of me telling our ketua about her attitude yesterday was not because I wanted to rat her out (why would I want to anyway?). I said that I had a problem with her unwillingness to take care of the class which I asked her to take care of. We talked like civilised people, without cat fights or screaming (thank God). We apologized to each other. So yup, problem solved :)

And I have to credit this to God who planted this urge to make peace with her and the courage for me to confront her.

Another thing to thank God for:

I left my bag of school uniform and blazer at school. They're both super super important.
I have to thank God for giving me such wonderful friends who are also my Taekwondo buddies. They helped me bring it to the office so that it won't go missing when I come back to take it on Monday.
But I went back to school to claim it anyway.
Rosalyn (Taekwondo buddy) was waiting for her mum who was late to pick her up and told me it was in the office. If she wasn't there, I would have NEVER thought it was in the office. I would think it was lost and start crying a pool of tears (Okay, exaggerating here :P). So, Rosalyn saved me two days of sadness and guilt!

Thank you so much, God. You're always there for me and You help me through all these difficult times :)

VBS 2010: Cosmic Quest

Sunday, November 28, 2010

Yeap, that's the theme for this year's Vacation Bible School at Cheras Baptist Church.

And it is commencing in approximately T minus 78 hours!

We have been doing VBS for the past several years and this year is no different.
But this year IS very different because we're coming up with our own materials. Yes, we're not relying on Lifeway this time, this is an independent project. And we're gonna rock it for sure :D!

My station is going to be 'Wonderful Works'. We're going to be expanding the children's knowledge on the wonderful works of God... the galaxy, nature and the human body. It's going to blow their minds (hopefully).

Pray for us (including all of the other helpers) that we may be fully ready to face VBS!

BarlowGirl - I Need You to Love Me

Saturday, November 20, 2010

Why, why are You still here with me
Didn't You see what I've done?
In my shame I want to run and hide myself
But it's here I see the truth
I don't deserve You

[Chorus:]
But I need You to love me, and I
I won't keep my heart from You this time
And I'll stop this pretending that I can
Somehow deserve what I already have
I need You to love me

I, I have wasted so much time
Pushing You away from me
I just never saw how You could cherish me
'Cause You're a God who has all things
And still You want me

Your love makes me forget what I have been
Your love makes me see who I really am
Your love makes me forget what I have been

Jonah Chapter 2

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

We are currently teaching the Sunday School kids the book of Jonah.
Last Sunday, the kids were learning about Jonah Chapter 2 and I just wanted to share with everyone how meaningful that passage is.

Jonah's Prayer

1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God.

2 He said:
"In my distress I called to the Lord,
and he answered me.
From the depths of the grave I called for help,
and you listened to my cry.

3 You hurled me into the deep,
into the very heart of the seas,
and the currents swirled about me;
all your waves and breakers
swept over me.

4 I said, 'I have been banished
from your sight;
yet I will look again
toward your holy temple.'

5 The engulfing waters threatened me,
the deep surrounded me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.

6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down;
the earth beneath barred me in forever.
But you brought my life up from the pit,
O Lord my God.

7 "When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered you, Lord,
and my prayer rose to you,
to your holy temple.

8 "Those who cling to worthless idols
forfeit the grace that could be theirs.

9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving,
will sacrifice to you.
What I have vowed I will make good.
Salvation comes from the Lord."

10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

Life is like a game of baseball.

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Life is like a game of baseball. You are the ball, while the batter is the obstacles and challenges in life. You'll probably be able to guess who the owner is.

The game has just started. You think you're invincible, the players are probably just a bunch of amateur baseball players. They won't be able to hit you.
The pitcher throws a fastball and the batter swung too late. "STRIKE 1!"
The batter swung his bat too early this time. "STRIKE 2!"
This time, the batter squares his shoulders before his stands in position. The pitcher throws you with all his might. Unexpectedly, the batter hits you, the swing sends you across, and then out of the field. It's a home run. The spectators cheer at the successful hit.

You on the other hand, land at a cold, dark, lonely alley. You're at the corner of the dumpster, feeling abandoned, wondering how the heck the batter could have hit you, you were totally caught off guard. "I'm never gonna get back in the game", you think. You can't move, you can't roll or bounce your way back, you are immobile. You feel as if there is nothing you can do, you feel useless and hopeless.

However, not long after, someone walks into the alley. It's your owner! He rummages through the dumpster although it smells fetid and VERY unpleasant.

You feel a surge of joy and hope.

He stops rummaging and catches sight of you. "There you are!" He exclaims and then picks you up. He brushes off the dirt on you and smiles - He's glad that He has found you. You may be a bit filthy and wet from the puddle of water you just bounced in and the dirty path you travelled, but you are not severely damaged or broken to the point where you're unmendable. He holds you tight in His hand, never letting you go. You can sense the warmth in his clutch from the body heat emitted, you feel safe and comfortable.
As He walks back to the field, He tosses you in the air a bit but He catches you everytime. He does not toss you too high so that you don't bounce off into darkness and oblivion.

And before you know it, you're back in the game, ready for another swing of the bat. This time, you do not underestimate the batter. You may even feel a bit fearful and worried. "Will the batter hit me so hard, I may be lost forever?"
Then you remind yourself, that your owner will surely pick you up again... everytime you get hit out of the field until the long game finally ends... where you'll be kept in His home. No, not locked away in a drawer or hid under the bed where light can't reach you and you will be engulfed in darkness and probably forgotten. Far from that.

Instead, you will be seated on the top of the drawer where He can see you. You look around the place you are at. It's cozy and peaceful. You are far away from the reality of the game and there are no more cruel batters in sight. No more being hit, no more being dirty, no more spectators who cheer and clap because you were hit.
You are definitely in a better place. He's so proud of you, you're His prized possession.

Recommended songs.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

I am one who is fascinated at how music can be so influential, inspirational and motivational (sometimes).

All these songs (in my opinion) are very meaningful.
Even if the songs do not have any lyrics (instrumental), the style and mood of the song is enough to make you feel and embrace the message the song is trying to deliver. The non-lyrical songs evoked all kinds of emotions in me when I listened to them.

I hope these songs invoke (positive) emotions in you too.

Joy Williams - Speaking a Dead Language

Oh I wonder
when did it all stop making sense
I don't understand
cuz I remember
we were so sure, so innocent
o but that was then
can we ever go back again
can we ever go back again

Casting Crowns - East to West

I know You've washed me white, turned my darkness into light
I need Your peace to get me through, to get me through this night
I can't live by what I feel, but by the truth Your word reveals
I'm not holding on to You, but You're holding on to me

Casting Crowns - Does Anybody Hear Her

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even knows she's going down today

Michael Bolton - Go the Distance

And I won't look back, I can go the distance
And I'll stay on track, no, I wont accept defeat
It's an uphill slope, but I won't lose hope
Till I go the distance, and my journey is complete
Instrumental:

Alan Silvestri - Forrest Gump Theme

Clint Eastwood - Changeling (the movie starring Angelina Jolie) End Title Song

Final Fantasy X - To Zanarkand

Hans Zimmer - Modern Warfare 2: Game Music Montage/Introduction theme

Harry Gregson-Williams - The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe - The Battle

Arise, My love.

Thursday, April 1, 2010

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Not a word was heard
at the tomb that day.
Just shuffling of soldiers feet
as they guarded the grave.
One day, two days,
three days had past.
Could it be that Jesus
breathed His last?

Could it be that His Father
had forsaken him?
Turned his back on his son
dispising our sin.
All hell seemed to whisper
'Just forget Him, He's dead.'
Then the Father looked down
to his son and he said..

Arise, My love.
Arise, My love.
The grave no longer
has a hold on you
No more death's sting
No more suffering
Arise...Arise...my love.

The Earth trembled
and the tomb began to shake,
and like lightening
from Heaven the stone was rolled away.
And as dead man
the guards they all stood there in fright
As the power of love
displayed its might
Then suddenly a melody
filled the air
Riding wings of wind,
it was everywhere
The words all creation
had been longing to hear
The sweet sound of victory,
so loud and clear.

Arise, my love.
Arise, my love.
The grave no longer has a hold on you.
No more death's sting
no more suffering
Arise...arise....

Sin, where are your shackles?
Death, where is your sting?
Hell; has been defeated.
The grave could not hold the king.

Arise, My love.
Arise, My love.
The grave no longer
has a hold on you
No more death's sting
No more suffering
Arise....Arise....Arise

Vacation Bible School '09 - Boomerang Express

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

It was that time of the year again!
VBS!!

Shan Berg did a great job leading the 'props crew' (us) this year. We made his blood pressure increase :D!

I was a helper at the G'day Cafe! If I were a kid, I would love my station because there's snacks! For kids, it was hassle-free, and full of fun.
For us, it was our worst nightmare.
Lol, kidding! Exaggerating :P
We stayed up till 3AM to make the cheesy vegemite scrolls. It was so.. tiring. But knowing that I'm doing it for the kids and (indirectly) for the Lord, it kept me going. I was so cranky (crank that soulja boy! *put for fun*) and active. Seriously, I work better when I'm cranky.. more productive.

SNACKS

Day 1 - Cheesy Vegemite Scrolls

What is it: Bread/puffs rolled and spread with cheese&vegemite/milo/nutella/honey.

Day 2 - Kangaroo Pouches

What is it: Pita breads with grated cucumbers and carrots, mayonnaise and hot dogs.

Day 3 - Ants on a Log (Failed!), Fruit popsicles/Mash Potatoes

Why fail? Because the celeries were too small. Too small to spread anything inside the centre :(
What is it: Celeries, dipped into condiments such as nutella, mayonnaise or ? (yeah i forgot, sorry) and also after that dipped into sprinkles/cereal/? (forgot this too).

Sry for forgetting everything so quick. I'm so sick right now, can't even think straight.

The cutest little girl :D

Hershey's Chocolate Syrup!

Haha coincidentally Sarah & I both had moles on our arm, so we drew something on it xD

Choral Worship Festival Concert.

Saturday, July 18, 2009

Today we had a small rehearsal @ FBC. I actually thought that I was pretty unprepared for the event. I am still not too sure about the starting notes of some songs etc.. But when I heard the choir today, we sounded quite prepared (to me)! Thank God for all the other altos who sang really loud :)!

Do you wanna come and us sing? You don't see Carmen Chan sing everyday you know.

But most importantly, you get to hear beautiful gospel music by the WHOLE choir! And the soloists too of course. There'll be a wonderful sermon too.

So be there, or be square 8)

Oh, I'll reply tags another time. Sorry.

Caffeine does not work on me.

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Seriously, I don't think caffeine has any effect on me. I still feel sleepy after drinking anything with caffeine.
Yay! Exam's over :D I bet a lot of other people will start blogging about their exams as well. I shall be the first!

BM: OK loh, but objective questions were pretty hard!
Seni (Art): My drawing didn't look too good.
English: I'm targeting an A!
Sivik (Civics): It's all logic..
Moral: Also logic..
Sejarah (History): Oh man.. I only studied Form 1 and Form 2, but didn't really study for Form 3 and guess what.. half of the questions were Form 3.
Maths: I didn't really have enough time to finish the first paper (4 questions left).
Science: Sighh..
Geography: Bad.. as usual.
PJK (PE): I fell asleep while doing it. When I woke up it was already time to pass the paper up, so I just tembak the answers.
KH (Life Skills): Not really good..

Well, I told myself that I would make a 'How Well Do You Know Carmen Chan' quiz after exams (cause that's when everyone is free including me):
Facebook
Don't worry I won't kill you if you don't reach a high percentage, I just want to see what you picked xD
Something's wrong with the 5th question.. lol.

Church camp on June 4th to June 6th! Absolutely can't wait :D I'm gonna have so much fun ;)

This is the 4th day without my mummy :( But, we've been e-mailing each other everyday except today cause she haven't replied me yet. Don't you miss her? Cause I do..

Oh and guess who's birthday it is today! It's Phoebe Lee's :D Happy Birthday girl! Finally fifteen :D

Something new. I felt very productive today!

It's Good Friday today!!
And Easter on Sunday!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
(Original pics from The Passion of Christ)
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness in God.
- 2 Corinthians 5:21

I googled 'Easter' @ Google Images, and the pictures that came out were not pictures of the cross, Jesus, or anything related to Christianity. Instead, pictures of Easter eggs and bunnies appeared. I was saddened :( Easter isn't about stupid eggs and bunnies, it's about the resurrection (and death for Good Friday) of Jesus!

Mind you, He was nailed on the cross with nails! They put a crown of thorns on His head.. The soldiers whipped and treated Him terribly. I kena one pinch also pain already. Also, Jesus bore the sin of the whole world including mine and yours, can't imagine how painful that can be. He felt extremely troubled before the crucifixion too.

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST MV

Thus, "It is finished."

Will reply tags another time.

Intervensi #1 & SS; The end of TGOL 珠光寶氣

Saturday, February 14, 2009

AHHH Internvensi's next week and I'm not even bothered to study, which is an awfully bad thing. A very bad thing. I definitely will after posting this..
But I trust God, that He will guide me through my exam.. He provides the guidance, and I provide the hard work. Very thankful that the Sejarah Form 1 Re-Intervensi wasn't too hard too. Thank God!
I'd also like to share a little bit about Sunday School. Teacher Mun Wai was talking about the Gaza&Israel war and she once said, "We have never seen war, but they (the people facing war) have never seen peace". That is so very true. She also taught us the gula-gula case (Maths formula).. You can learn a lot from Sunday School, and indirectly, get closer to God as well.

Oh yes, I have finally finished the 82-episode long series, The Gem of Life a.k.a 珠光寶氣. It's a record! I've never watched such a long series in my life. I don't think I want to watch any series that long anymore, unless Gigi comes back and makes another series that long :D Below are spoilers so if you plan to watch the ending, don't read it, unless you want to.
The ending was -.-". I certainly expected more from it..

Ah Wor becomes blind, Jessica feels guilty

Will went to US to find Elise

Constance drops her ring, Terrence helps her retrieve it, C hugged T out of nowhere, and then stood on the streets awkwardly (cause they just broke up in the episodes before).

Calvin goes into jail, Sylvia waits

Sunny hospitalized cause Calvin accidentally pushed him down the stairs

3 sisters' mommy had Alzheimer's. Funny flashbacks (in their younger days)..

Mommy fell asleep.. family thought she died.. so cheesy :P

Everyone had such an.. open ending.
