Ray Peterson - Tell Laura I Love Her

His race car overturned violently and the next thing he knew, he was flung out of the wrecked car, thrashing on the asphalt. His memories were drowning his senses, and he sees his life flashing before his eyes.

The first time their eyes met was when Tommy worked as a waiter in a café.

“Table 3!” the barista called and rang the table bell.

Tommy attempted to expertly carry a tray with cups of coffee to Table 3. Unfortunately, he tripped on a table leg and the contents spilled over, landing on the girl with the bright azure eyes and graceful ebony hair.

“I’m so sorry!” he chanted over and over again. “I’ll pay for the damage!”

At first, she was reluctant but soon she gave in to his incessant pleading.

He returned the jacket a few days later and they went for dinner that night. After getting to know each other more, they fell deeply in love with each other. Their love was bounded by fate and held together by their deep affection for one another.

Suddenly, another man came into the picture. Tommy realized that said man was jeopardizing his relationship with Laura. He couldn’t fathom the idea of her leaving him. Therefore, this prompted him to get a wedding ring and ask for her hand in marriage. But, he couldn’t afford it and participating in an illegal race seemed to be the only means of getting sufficient money to buy a ring….

The throbbing pain that seared through his head brought him back to reality. He called for Laura repeatedly and desperately wished to see her for the last time. Every breath he took edged him closer to death. He heard the cackling sound of high heels but blood was seeping out from the injury on his head and his sight was fading away. The blurry image of a woman hurrying to the crash site was the only thing that kept him clinging to his senses. Maybe it was an overactive imagination, but he was adamant that that woman was Laura. Mustering all his strength, he cried out before his last visage of life, “Tell Laura, I love her”.
