Nostalgia #1: PMR results

My first 'Nostalgia' post.

****************
Her eyes were completely bloodshot from the sleepless nights she had. The reason why she could not sleep, was because of the imaginary butterflies that were fluttering violently in her stomach, causing her to toss and turn at night.

She reached the end of the line, observing everyone in front of her. They were all wearing the same expression as her, a nervous one. The girls were chirping away like birds while the boys were patting each other on their backs and shaking hands. Carmen knew this was a gesture of moral support and encouragement, they were wishing each other good luck.

"Carmen!" her friend who was also named Carmen (with a differnt surname, Hor) called from the front of the line. "Come here!"
Carmen C was reluctant to move from her safe position at the back. She was perfectly fine behind, knowing that she still had quite some time before reaching the desk in front. But she dragged herself to the front, not wanting to disrespect her friend. She could see Amanda Law waving to her at the same place Carmen H was from afar.

"So, are you nervous?" Carmen H said while poking the other Carmen's arm playfully.
"Of course! I think everyone is." Carmen C replied with a sigh after that. Both of them knew that it was soon going to be their turn to receive our result slips.
"Why not you go first?"
"Oh no! I don't want to go first!"
"Im scared! I dont want to take it first!"
"So am I! Please, i dont want to go first."

But after thinking it over for a while... Carmen C thought that she should admit defeat in their argument and go first. Besides, the faster she got her result, the faster her nightmare will end.

"Fine, I'll go first." she stated wearing a smirk on her face.
Just when she spoke her last word, the person in front of her walked, her hands cupping her whole face, HOLDING THE RESULT SLIP. She seems to be sobbing...

The person in front of her already received the slip. It didn't take her long enough to know that she was the next person to receive the slip. When she meant that she wanted the whole thing to end quick, she didn't mean for it to be THAT quick!

As she extended her hand to grab the slip, she shut her eyes rapidly. She wanted to escape from the position and situation she was in right now, but she knew it was obviously impossible unless she had the power to time-travel. She opened one of her eyes as she felt the thin-ness of the slip. There was no turning back, the only option she had was to open her eyes and face the music.

"Congratulations, Sze Ern!" her form teacher exclaimed in Malay.
Surprised with her teacher's outburst, she looked down on to the slip in her hand.

She saw her name first, then her eyes scrolled down to the list of subjects. BM - A, BI - A, and everything else was A as well. She couldn't believe her eyes! Were they deceiving her? She pinched herself hard to make sure that it was not a blissful dream. She pinched herself several times and nothing happened.

This must be real. To her disbelief, she achieved straight As! Her eyes twinkled and there was nothing else in her face other than joy.

Carmen jumped into the air and strided with confidence towards her parents to show that their daughter did not dissapoint them this time. On the way, she heard word of congratulations which were all drowned in her mixed feelings.

"How the heck did she manage to achieve such results?" she thought to herself. Part of her thinking was also influenced by the low self-confidence in herself. Moreover, she remembered answering quite a number of questions incorrectly! Carmen was so ready to return home with a devastated face, showing sign of defeat. Until she saw the slip.

While basking in the after glow, a group of friends crowded around her and endlessly asked the same question that was asked to them and to those who knew their results already, "How many As did you get?!"

Carmen smiled from ear to ear, and that was enough to show her friends that she achieved success. No words were needed to show that the girl who never thought she would get straight As, eventually got it.

At that point, she knew. It was the work of God. Only He could make this possible. It was to her, a memorable miracle.

After all the asking and answering, her family (excluding her mother) drove to their favourite fish base noodles restaurant :)

Quite some things were not true and exaggerated btw. But well, it kinda happened like that.
Oh btw, Twitter is an exception to my semi-hiatus because it only takes seconds to tweet xD

I have changed my blog name to 'Nostalgia'. Haha I thought of 'Nostalgia: blissful oblivion', but that didn't make sense. I chose Nostalgia, simply because I can be pretty nostalgic and sentimental sometimes.

English 101!

Definition of NOSTALGIA:
(n-stlj, n-)
1. A bittersweet longing for things, persons, or situations of the past.
2. The condition of being homesick; homesickness.

This, shall be permanent. I needed a permanent single blog name for the blog instead of changing it according to the blog theme/layout all the time.

Back to the title, 3 GAMES I REALLY WANT TO PLAY RIGHT NOW
I know, these games are pretty outdated and I'm probably the last one to play XD
Haha, and yes, all these games are pretty violent.

1. Napoleon Total War
Reminds me of the game, 'Ages of Empires'. This game is from one of the Total War series. I would like to play Napoleon Total War and Rome Total War :(
And this is history! Factual stuff! You get to learn and have fun at the same time.

2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Problem no.1, I don't have an Xbox :( But there's a PC version! Problem no.2, too violent according to dad :P. So, I'll have to play the Nintendo DS version, THANK YOU WILSON for introducing romulation.net!
Heard the game's so popular, they're planning to shoot a Modern Warfare 2 movie! It's either Gerard Butler or Kevin McKidd (voices Soap MacTavish) who's gonna portray Soap MacTavish. I hope it's KMK because it would be Soap's original voice!
Downloaded the Nintendo DS versoin, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Mobilized. Now, I have to find out how to get it in my DS. Great.

Not sure whether I played this or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare at Sophia's house with Stan... whatever it is, Call of Duty games rock. I'm not good at it though o.O

3. Left 4 Dead 2
At first, I didn't have the courage to play this game cause well, it's scary! Imagine a zombie outbreak and they're making these 'uhhhhhhhh' or 'unnnnng' sounds! How can I play this if I can't even face the TV when playing Fatal Frame? I think the first horror game I played was Resident Evil, in my cousin's gameboy. And that was with my cousin's help!
Well, I need to break out of my cant-play-horror-games shell.
This game is pretty old (everything gets outdated/old really fast when it comes to technology) and I bet everyone has finished playing the game. Except for me, yes.

A little research on courses.

Dr. Job has really helped me a lot on picking my future course. Unfortunately, it didn't help enough. I'm still facing career crisis.

Here are a few which I have kinda chosen from the 'A-Z Explained Jobs' guide book. Excerpts are also taken from the book.

Criminologist - Studies the behavioural patterns of criminals and the effects of their actions on their victims, the community and the law. Examine the systems that bring to justice the people accused of crimes, attempt to explain the reasons behind criminal behaviour and suggest ways to reduce crime.
Communications Officer - Generally responsible for maintaining and establishing the image that his or her firm wishes to present to the public.
Paediatrician - Doctor specializing in children. I love children and babies! :D
Event Planner - Responsible for planning and coordinating all aspects of an event. Being a wedding planner would be nice. You get to see the bride and groom being so happy and so in love!
Flight Attendant - a.k.a Air stewardess. It's fun being able to travel countries all around the world. But I can certainly imagine myself getting motion sickness on almost every flight. LOL.
Forensic Science - Use scientific methods and techniques to examine trace materials associated with crimes to assist legal investigations. COOL. But currently, I'm not really enjoying chemistry, and Forensic Science is all about chemistry!
Marine biologist - Study the origin, structure, functions and behaviour of living organisms in oceans, their relationships with each other and how they are affected by environmental factors. I like swimming, which is advantageous :)
Meteorologist - Forecast daily weather and study the atmosphere to improve understanding of the changing climate.
Physiotherapist - Assessing, treating and preventing disorders in human movement caused by injury and disease. Help patients with injures to regain/improve the use of their limbs. Can you imagine how cool it would be to help people learn to move again? :)
Speech therapist - Help people overcome communication disorders. Same as being a physiotherapist, wouldn't it be nice to help people learn to talk again? Or help deaf and blind babies learn to speak? I find these two (physio and speech therapists) jobs very 'mulia' (noble?).

Oh, pray that God will guide me with my decision-making because it's good to start knowing what you want to do (in the future) early so that you can work towards it ASAP.

Yes, I'm minimizing my computer usage because I don't think I did very well for my last exam.
So....

I won't be using the internet as often!

PRAYERS
1. Pray that I can improve in my studies!
2. Pray that I am more motivated to practice my piano because I'm having my piano grade 7 exam soon and I don't even know my notes :X I still have dynamics, expression etc to work on!
3. Pray that I also am more motivated to practice Taekwando, because my black belt exam will be soon as well. I'm more worried about my piano though.
4. Pray that more people will come to S.O.A.R sessions (1.30PM [Time may differ] @ Cheras Baptist Church)! It's a youth thing ;)
5. Pray for the counselors and organizers of the coming youth camp, AWAKENING. Pray that the response will be good.
6. I'm trying to sleep early, so pray that I will have the self-control to resist the temptation of sleeping late.
7. Also trying to be a more healthy person! Need to build stamina and improve cardiovascular fitness.. need to lose weight too. Pray that I have more motivation to exercise and eat less.
8. ALSO trying to improve myself (mentally). Need to be less careless and reckless, need to be more hardworking and less lazy, need to be able to withstand any challenges that come my way and accept them as one of the many trials of life.
9. I'm being more organized! By organizing my music library in iTunes. Trying to find the artworks and albums of the songs. It's hard work, because I have 2000+ songs XD

OTHER THAN THAT,

Photobucket
Oh, I'm so happy that Merbau and Lembaga Pengawas won the overall for Sports Day! Gosh, I got the best of both worlds :P

I have cultivated the interest of reading! I mean, I liked reading ever since I was born (kinda), but lately I have liked reading A WHOLE LOT MORE. I like that.

Pic credits: internet.
I have finished reading 4/5 novels of the Percy Jackson series! The last one: The Last Olympian. That one is a must-read. Rick Riordan is a very good writer. His books can be hilarious and suspenseful at the same time, which makes it very interesting to read. Aww, so sad that this is the last book of the series :(

I had a lot to say, but I kinda forgot, so I'll stop here :)

Prefects.

Friday, April 2, 2010

Prefects in school are like police in the country. We control the discipline of the school and help whoever needs help.

No prefect is perfect, no matter how much the school wants us to be. But we try our best.

Well I attended a prefect leadership course @ SAB! Got to meet new friends from other schools! Convent Jalan Peel, Sains Selangor etc... The best thing was that I saw lots of SKTS & MC friends! Crystal, Wai Kit, Shawn, Melvyn, Kar Yan, Xi Yuan, Yin Siew, Yi Ning, Joshua & Jolynn ;) You people rock man.

Sorry I ruined the picture with my weird smile guys. LOL I may look like I'm forced to take the picture, but it's not true :P CONNAUGHT & MUTIARA UNITE (:

Pearly (SMK Seri Mutiara) prefects!

I'd like to tell about my traumatic incident :\

There was this teacher who was asking us to do all this weird (but, fun) cheers and shouts. And while we were doing it, this other old, pervert-looking teacher, he suddenly sticks a pink round sticker on my blazer. Xue Ling and Yuen Sie got it too. We all thought that maybe we're gonna get called out to play some games or answer some questions (I shudder at the thought of that). Then some St. Gabriel prefects sitting in front of us told that we were gonna get a prize, which I doubted from the second the idea popped up from his mouth. The sticker was not a good thing, that I was sure.

And then he took over the mic, and called us with the stickers to stand up. A few 'lucky' people from a few 'lucky' schools stood up including us. He kept scolding us saying that we talked when the other teacher was talking in front. "How are you going to be good prefects?!", "Bringing shame to your school!" "Not worthy of being a prefect" bla bla bla etc... I was at the peak of my neuroticism because, I was so embarrassed. No one in the hall dared talk anymore after that.

Then we were suppose to draw out our assembly plan, where the prefects and students were positioned in the assembly. I tell you, I had no more mood to do anything anymore. I kinda disliked him already. Of course lah, right? Who would like a teacher that just punished them?

Around half an hour later he told the whole hall that he purposely sticked those pink stickers on us to 'memusnahkan' us, so that we can 'save' the rest of the prefects. In human terms, he meant that we didn't make any noise, he just used as a sacrificial lamb to keep the rest of prefects quiet.

=.="

Thank God we didn't get into any real trouble though.

APPRECIATE YOUR SCHOOL'S PREFECTS! The good ones, not the bad lazy ones of course.
We go through a lot of hardship to keep the school in control ok?

Arise, My love.

Not a word was heard
at the tomb that day.
Just shuffling of soldiers feet
as they guarded the grave.
One day, two days,
three days had past.
Could it be that Jesus
breathed His last?

Could it be that His Father
had forsaken him?
Turned his back on his son
dispising our sin.
All hell seemed to whisper
'Just forget Him, He's dead.'
Then the Father looked down
to his son and he said..

Arise, My love.
Arise, My love.
The grave no longer
has a hold on you
No more death's sting
No more suffering
Arise...Arise...my love.

The Earth trembled
and the tomb began to shake,
and like lightening
from Heaven the stone was rolled away.
And as dead man
the guards they all stood there in fright
As the power of love
displayed its might
Then suddenly a melody
filled the air
Riding wings of wind,
it was everywhere
The words all creation
had been longing to hear
The sweet sound of victory,
so loud and clear.

Arise, my love.
Arise, my love.
The grave no longer has a hold on you.
No more death's sting
no more suffering
Arise...arise....

Sin, where are your shackles?
Death, where is your sting?
Hell; has been defeated.
The grave could not hold the king.

Arise, My love.
Arise, My love.
The grave no longer
has a hold on you
No more death's sting
No more suffering
Arise....Arise....Arise
