An International Student in Brisbane Pt. 2: Food Glorious Food

Sunday, March 5, 2017

You guys.... this is my favourite part of the series (only 2 so far but I already know it's my favourite)

Food glorious food. Brisbane may not be like Sydney and Melbourne where brunch spots are practically everywhere. I personally feel Brisbane needs to up their brunch and dessert game. But that doesn't mean you're out of choices for some good eats.

Here are some of my pick of restaurants to eat in Brisbane (and beyond):

Korean

1. Funny Funny (Brisbane CBD)
Address: 85 George St, Brisbane City QLD 4000, Australia
Must order: Great place for Korean fried chicken. 50% off KFC on Wednesdays!

2. Maru (Brisbane CBD)
Address: 157 Elizabeth St, Brisbane City QLD 4000, Australia
Must order: Korean BBQ and seafood pancake. Bad ventilation (so your clothes stink up with smoke really quickly), but good food.

Address: Mantra on Mary, 70 Mary St, Brisbane City QLD 4000, Australia

Japanese

1. Genkotsu Ramen (Toowong)
Address: Shop E, Clements Arcade,, 51 Sherwood Rd, Toowong QLD 4066, Australia
Must Order: Gyokai (Fish) broth ramen and chashu. Very limited seats during peak hours so either come early or prepare to queue.

2. Hakataya Ramen (Brisbane CBD/Indooroopilly/Sunnybank Plaza)
Brisbane CBD Address: Myer Centre
Indooroopilly: Indooroopilly Shopping Centre
Sunnybank Plaza: Shop 27B, Sunnybank Plaza / 358 Mains Road, Sunnybank QLD 4109, Australia
Must Order: Nagahama Ramen and chashu. Also with very limited seats during peak hours so either come early or prepare to queue.

[Check Campus Eats below for 1 more Japanese food place!]

Thai
Thai food there just doesn't seem to taste as good as the ones back in Malaysia unfortunately. It's missing that oomph and kick. The other time I tried Thai was at the Brisbane Thai Festival and I had pad thai and mango sticky rice. BUT you can still settle your Thai food cravings here. Also, remember to check out festivals and markets for great food.
